Two great classics of British music for strings, Ralph Vaughan Williams’s inspired Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis along with Edward Elgar’s magnificent Introduction and Allegro, form the backbone of this programme. We give a rare performance of the magnificent Sea Sketches by Welsh composer Grace Williams and Gerald Finzi’s beautiful Eclogue with piano soloist Anita d’Attellis and the programme is completed with Elgar’s intensely moving Elegy and Peter Warlock’s own arrangement of his highly popular Capriol Suite of 1928.
