Music by Bach, Vivaldi, Bruckner and Ward.
The Thames Consort return to Dorchester Abbey to give a Sunday afternoon concert. The centrepiece of their programme is one of Bach’s most substantial motets: Jesu meine freude, a beautiful meditative work based on a Lutheran chorale. ‘Cellist, Judith Dallosso plays a sonata by Vivaldi and these two composers are combined in Bach’s sparkling organ arrangement of Vivaldi’s A minor concerto. Alongside the Baroque are a group of motets by Anton Bruckner (1824-96) , whose anniversary falls this year and ‘The Swallow’ a setting by Judith Ward of poetry by John Clare. Judith is director of Music of Wallingford Parish Church Choir and has a growing list of compositions. The Swallow was shortlisted recently in a competition organised by the Voces8.
